Day Four Dublin

Famine Ship River Liffey

Today is our last day in Dublin. We started early as we wanted to locate the car rental place for the following day. It was supposed to be within walking distance of the hotel. After a helping hand from a local Irishman we found it and checked that everything was good for tomorrow.

With that done, we headed for the nearest hop on hop off bus stop where we began our touring for the day. We actually rode on the bus for awhile getting an overview of the city. We had seen a lot in our three days in Dublin so decided to go to the furthermost place and see Kilmainham Jail. So glad we did. We had heard that this was a must see place and it really is. It's best to pre-book, which we didn't do, but were fortunate to only have to wait about half an hour for a tour. This was on our Heritage Pass. The tour was fantastic with a very passionate guide who really knew his history. All the guides we had on our trip were terrific so OPW does a wonderful job imparting information to tourists.

Inside Kilmainham Jail

There was a lot of Victorian iron work inside the jail. Each of the doors in the picture leads to a cell. You can read the history on their site and it is fascinating. Many famous inhabitants of the jail have their stories told by the guides.

When we left the jail we hopped on the bus and headed bak in to town. We had a reservation for Afternoon Tea at a tea shop in the center of Dublin. We found this on Groupon so it was a two for one deal. I have to say...it was delicious

Afternoon Tea

This tea shop was in one of the malls in the main shopping area in Dublin. I was really surprised at how good everything was. The sandwiches and quiche were very filling and we had scones, clotted cream, jam, desserts and, of course, a selection of tea. It was quite delightful and we spend a couple of hours enjoying the bounty.

We had planned to have a nice dinner on our last night but were too full from tea so just opted for a final beer in a pub before heading back to the hotel.

Tomorrow the adventure really kicks up a notch --- driving in Ireland.
